PGA Coach AI Instant tip · 3 seconds
That’s an open clubface at impact.

The ball starts left of your target and curves right. Nearly every slice comes from the face pointing right of the path when you strike it. Three things to try on the range:

1Turn your lead hand a touch stronger at address, so you can see two knuckles.
2Feel the toe of the club rotating over the heel through impact. Half swings first, ten balls.
3Aim the clubface at the target before you set your feet, not after.
A slice is a pattern, and a pattern is what a lesson fixes. Your top 3 PGA Professionals are below. Matt at Fields Ranch works on exactly this.

What Golfer ID can become

The golfer's whole relationship with the game, in one account the PGA of America owns.

01
The golfer's PGA of America identity
A card every golfer carries from their first range visit that says they are a PGA golfer. 80% of golfers surveyed want one.
“We have an identity crisis... This whole table has no idea who we are... It’s PGA Tour. It’s just PGA.”PGA Director of Golf, municipal, Dallas
02
Golf's rewards platform
Points on every round and range visit at every facility, a first reward within 3 visits at the counter, and a headline prize draw that gives every golfer a reason to join.
“They just love it... they just come in and they’re like, I need my punch... 10 rounds, get one free. They love it.”PGA Director of Golf, managed municipal, Carrollton
03
The tee time platform
Fee-free booking on each facility's own tee sheet, every player in the booking named, and an alert when a preferred time opens.
“The tee time component, you’re gonna capture the most people initially, for sure. That’s a big draw.”PGA Director of Golf, municipal, Dallas
04
The community platform
Find a game when you are a player short; groups, leagues, events and tournaments, including junior events; a course when you travel.
“If you got them engaged in a group, that’s when it really explodes, because then they’re going to all these different places to play.”PGA Head Professional, municipal, Dallas

What Golfer ID can become

Every one of the nine was asked for in the field.

05
The way to a PGA Professional
One instant tip, then a named coach nearby. Group lessons, and a 15-minute tip before a tee time.
“If somebody would spend 10 minutes with me before I went out for a tee time and gave me a couple pointers... I’m going to come back to Sherrill Park because I know they provide that service or opportunity.”Senior Director, Northern Texas PGA
06
The way into the championships
Registration and verification for PGA Championship and Ryder Cup tickets.
“The only people that are getting access to buy PGA Championship tickets or Ryder Cup tickets could be the people that have a Golfer ID.”Section Honorary President, private club
07
The golfer's record
Rounds, a handicap link to GHIN, achievements verified by the PGA of America such as holes-in-one, and status recognized at every facility.
“...the recognition of someone, instead of being this nameless, faceless person that walks into a public golf course.”PGA Director of Golf, managed municipal, Carrollton
08
The facility's marketing tool
Its golfers named and reachable, offers to its own golfers, and a win-back message when a regular goes quiet.
“An ID card will keep them engaged, especially if you communicate with them. The communication aspect of it’s huge.”PGA Head Golf Professional, municipal, Richardson
09
The PGA of America's record of who plays
Participation measured directly for the first time, and one base for events, PGA Jr. League and PGA HOPE.
“We’re going to stay fragmented, I believe... until we have a big net for everybody to use.”PGA Director of Golf, municipal, Dallas

Lessons from the last cycle

The last boom gave back 6.8 million golfers.

The industry could see it happening. What it did not have was anything tangible and easy to significantly slow it, and more importantly, no pipeline to backfill it. Golfer ID is that pipeline.
National Golf Foundation, US on-course participation 2003 to 2025, charted above · NGF 2025: 48.1M total participants, of whom 29.1M played on-course · NGF course supply: more closures than openings in every year since 2006, roughly 2,000 net facilities lost
Why it has to be the PGA of America

Somebody is going to hold this relationship.

If private equity owns it
Leonard Green, KSL and TPG already own parts of golf, and they are very good at what they do
  • The relationship sits with them, not with the game
  • Facilities trade cash or tee times for access to their own customers
  • Discounting is the lever, because discounting moves inventory
  • It changes hands when the owner does, and the terms go with it
PGA of America
If the PGA of America holds it
The one organization in golf whose mandate is the game itself
  • The relationship sits with the game, and the golfer consents to it
  • Every facility joins on equal terms and keeps its own customers
  • Participation is the lever, because serving the Member and growing the game is the mission
  • Very few initiatives check both boxes, the Member and the game. This one does.
